IWHR's Department of Irrigation and Drainage is responsible for the organization and implementation of a state-sponsored research program on the management and monitoring technology of safe water supply in rural areas and information system development.

With four years of research, development and demonstrative application, the research team has accomplished a series of achievements, including the information and automatic monitoring integration technology for water supply management in rural areas, water quality risk assessment system for centralized water supply, and the assessment index system for safe water supply in rural areas.

Five patents have been obtained from this research, the results of which have been applied to water resources and public health management as well as to more than 30 rural water supply projects, benefiting a population of over 2 million.
