Precision Ground Irrigation Technology and Facilities Shows Effectiveness in Water Saving and Yield Increase

A key national-funded program on precision ground irrigation technology and facilities has been recently completed by IWHR's Department of Irrigation and Drainage. With significant effect in water saving and yield increase, the program will change the current situation of backward ground irrigation technology and low efficiency water utilization in farmland.

The research program, taking water utilization index of ground water irrigation as the research object, has achieved great progress. By building border irrigation water and fertilizer migration models under different water-utilizing conditions, the program established an intellectual farmland levelling system based on GNSS, developed the high-efficiency water-saving precision irrigation technology based on accurate control of field levelling and irrigation process, and innovated special facilities.

The research results have been demonstrated and applied in Beijing, Gansu Province, Hebei Province, Helongjiang Province, etc.
