Promotion and application of integrated drinking water disinfection technology for rural areas

IWHR is the lead research institute of the state-sponsored project- Promotion and Application of Integrated Drinking Water Disinfection Technology for Rural Areas, which was launched in 2011 and aimed at improving the drinking water quality in China’s rural areas.

In three years, five disinfection devices and six sets of disinfection technological modes have been developed. Six demonstration counties in six provinces (Hubei, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Hebei, Liaoning and Jiangxi), as well as 66 centralized and 65 non-centralized water supply projects have been established, benefiting a population of 850,000.

Outputs from this research project also include training textbooks, standard design drawing, technical code for equipment operation and management, and operational monitoring plan of demonstration project.

The research has played an important role in improving water quality and disinfection level in rural areas, promoting technological upgrading, and guaranteeing drinking water safety.
