Yawar Badat, senior official of Pakistan’s Punjab Board of Investment and Trade visited IWHR on June 12, 2017, meeting with IWHR Vice President Wang Xiaogang in talks on future cooperation.

In a warm welcome of the Pakistani friend, Dr. Wang reviewed the frequent exchange and concrete cooperation with this South Asian country, particularly the collaborative projects in fields of hydropower development, flood control, irrigation, sediment and water resources management. He also made a brief introduction to the institute’s research power and fruitful achievements in international hydropower development, and expected more and closer cooperation between the two countries, especially between Punjab and IWHR, in response to the Chinese government’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the development of “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.”

Mr. Badat gave an introduction to Punjab, the most populous and second largest province of Pakistan, and their priority on energy development. He invited IWHR to further participate in the water resources and hydropower development of Punjab, and said the provincial government as well as the board of investment and trade will give firm and active support. Rapid progress is being made regarding the economic corridor projects, according to the visiting Pakistani official, who hoped substantial cooperation can be materialized soon to promote the win-win development of both sides.

More opinions were exchanged about high-level mutual visits and project cooperation.
