IWHR effectively controls water bursts in diversion tunnel
Time: 2016-07-13 | Hits:

IWHR successfully controlled the water bursts in the diversion tunnel of Daping Hydropower Station that had been constructed by drilling and blasting, causing spring No. 1 to dry up for over half a year and spring No. 2 to drop in water level and water quality.

Difficulties faced including the well-developed cracks of fault in this region, large flow, high pressure, and short distance between the bursts and the springs. By adopting low-temperature bitumen, fast-hardening paste slurry and mold bags, major seepage passages in the tunnel were successfully stopped. After grouting, water started oozing out of spring No. 1 while water level and quality of spring No. 2 were restored, guaranteeing water demand of the local community.

Two years after the construction, no new water bursts occur in the treated section of the tunnel, nor does water decrease in spring No. 1 and No. 2, proving a reliable quality of grouting.
