On May 9, 2019, Katsuyuki Yanai, Chairman of Japan JCE Shareholding Co., Ltd., and Hiroshi Tuji, President of Japan National Land Disaster Prevention Co., Ltd. (referred to as “NLDP” below) visited IWHR to discuss further technical collaboration of the two sides in the field of disaster prevention and reduction. IWHR President Dr. KUANG Shangfu met the delegation. Dr. CAO Wenhong, Chief Engineer of IWHR, as well as heads and experts from Division of International Cooperation and Department of Sediment Research attended the meeting.

Dr. Kuang welcomed the JCE delegation and congratulated the continuing collaboration between JCE and IWHR in the field of soil and water conservation and disaster prevention and reduction. He pointed out that NLDP, the largest enterprise in technology and construction of land disaster prevention and reduction in Japan, has made great progress in technology and production development in recent years. He also delivered his expectation for deeper and more extensive collaboration of the two sides in the field of ecological restoration management, disaster warning and forecast, and geological disaster prevention.

Chairman Yanai and President Tuji expressed their gratitude for Dr. Kuang’s warm reception. Geological disasters are frequent in Japan, according to Chairman Yanai, which highlights the importance of NLDP’s work in disaster prevention and reduction. He hoped to deepen technical and human resources exchange with IWHR and advance disaster prevention and reduction technologies together. President Tuji introduced NLDP’s current research directions and latest technical achievements in greening for disaster prevention, and looked forward to more collaboration in related fields of the two sides.

The two sides then further exchanged on future collaboration directions and areas of mutual interest.
