Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of the Environment of Poland Mr. Mariusz Gajda visited IWHR on May 12, 2017, met with IWHR President Kuang Shangfu and talked on future cooperation in water resources management. Liu Zhiguang, director general of Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology of China’s Ministry of Water Resources, and IWHR Vice President Yang Xiaodong were also among the attendants.

Dr. Kuang welcomed the Polish delegates, pointing out the visit was of great significance right after the signing of an MOU between the two countries. He said Poland has rich experience in water management policy and strategy, water saving and protection, wastewater treatment and hydropower utilization, and that there is spacious room for both countries to cooperate and learn from each other. The president also reviewed the existing cooperation between the institute and universities, research institutes and companies in Poland, and looked forward to concrete collaborations in near future to jointly promote scientific and technological progress.

Mr. Gajda briefed the audience on the current situation of water resources management as well as related research institutions in his country, and said Poland is ready to conduct exchange and cooperation with China in biological wastewater treatment, small hydro, water efficiency improvement, and other topics that interest both sides. He said the just-signed MOU had laid a solid foundation for future communication and collaboration in addressing water issues and challenges, and that IWHR could play a very positive role in it.

Discussions were also conducted in hot water issues as well as the cooperative scope and path. The Polish visitors also visited IWHR’s lab of computer monitoring system.
