IWHR Vice President Dr. PENG Jing, also the Chair of the Committee on Engineering for Innovative Technologies of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), attended and chaired the opening session of the Engineering and Innovative Services: High-Level Symposium on Engineering Serving the Global Sustainable Development.
The Symposium was organized on September 5 in Beijing as a side event of the 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). WFEO President GONG Ke, Secretary-General of the Chinese Institute of Electronics CHEN Ying, Deputy Director of the National Communication Center for Science and Technology CHEN Rui, and Vice President of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology MENG Fanxing delivered addresses at the opening.

With a theme of “Digitization Opening the Future, Services Promoting Development,” the Symposium focused on the significant role of scientific, technological and engineering innovations in the digital transformation of services, the improvement of resilience, the balanced development, and the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Two keynote sessions and a roundtable session were convened after the opening, focusing on engineering innovations promoting sustainable development and economy, building a beautiful future of sustainable society, and creating a sustainable and livable environment from economic, social and environmental perspectives.
Cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary research and service application cases in the digital era were shared and discussed, covering diverse topics including global development and future trends of digital technologies and service trade, AI algorithm and its application in image analysis, digital twin simulation and modeling, digital earth and resilience against flooding and water-logging, digital governance and AI education, and scientific and technological strategies for a sustainable future.
At the CIFTIS exhibition, WFEO had a pavilion themed on “Engineering Innovations Serving Sustainable Development.” The federation also organized a forum on quality geographic products, ecological and environmental protection and sustainable development on September 4.

Starting from 2012, CIFTIS is the first and the largest comprehensive exhibition in the service trade sector in the world. It is a major platform for sharing knowledge, connecting supply and demand and promoting joint development. More than 10,000 companies and organizations from 153 countries and regions participated in this year’s exhibition online or offline.
