On July 29, 2019, International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) President Felix Reinders, Honorary President Professor Eduard Schultz and Professor Chandra Alastair Madramootoo, Vice President Marco Arcieri and Waseem Nazir, and Former Director of Water Resources Division of Indonesia Ministry of Public Works and Housing visited IWHR, greeted by IWHR President Dr. KUANG Shangfu. IWHR Vice President Dr. PENG Jing as well as representatives from Division of International Cooperation, Department of Irrigation and Drainage and Secretariat of Chinese National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (CNCID) attended the meeting.
Dr. KUANG Shangfu gave a warm welcome to the ICID delegation. He reviewed the long-lasting good cooperation between IWHR and ICID. As the host utility of CNCID Secretariat, IWHR has been actively supporting ICID’s events and activities, organizing multiple ICID conferences including the 19th International Irrigation and Drainage Conference and its 42nd and 56th Executive Board meeting, and has undertaken the CPSP project on water and food security initiated by ICID.
Also, IWHR has been continuously delivering talents, including one President and four Vice Presidents, to ICID, and will fully support ICID’s future work as always, according to Dr. KUANG. He expressed IWHR’s willingness to boost sustainable development of global irrigation and drainage as well as food security in both China and the whole world.
President Felix Reinders thanked IWHR and CNCID for the substantial support. He appreciated China’s great contribution to the promotion and progress of the world’s irrigation and drainage as one of the initial members of ICID. He also spoke highly of IWHR for its indispensable support for CNCID on the organization of training programs and international workshops and conferences for irrigation and drainage. The personnel support and wisdom contribution of IWHR was also highly recognized and appreciated. He expected to deepen the collaboration with IWHR and CNCID to jointly work for the achievement of ICID 2030 Goals.
The ICID delegation also attended the “Belt and Road Initiative” Irrigation and Drainage Development and Technology Innovation Forum hosted by IWHR in the following days.
