The 7th Cross-Straits Youth Camp on Water, jointly organized by IWHR and Taiwan University, and co-organized by China Three Gorges Corporation, was officially launched in IWHR on July 16, 2019. The Taiwan student camp was led by Professor LIN Junting of Taiwan University, and comprised of over 30 students from Taiwan University, Chenggong University, Fengjia University and Central University. IWHR Vice President Dr. PENG Jing presided over the opening class. Mr. HAO Zhao, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Water Resources, representatives from China Three Gorges Corporation, as well as colleagues and students from IWHR attended the opening class.

Dr. PENG Jing extended a warm welcome to visiting Taiwan teachers and students. She recalled that over ten years into Cross-Straits Youth Camp on Water, the young water professionals have created warm memories of personal exchange and registered encouraging development of water science and technology. As the theme of the 7th camp highlighted, “new knowledge and new partners” would always be a feature of the Cross-Straits Youth Camp on Water.
Porf. LIN Junting expressed gratitude for the warm reception and meticulous preparation. He encouraged the students to look and learn beyond the books, and to fully avail themselves of the opportunity brought by the Camp to hone their knowledge and skills.
Mr. HAO Zhao pointed out that cross-straits water science and technology exchanges have a long history and various mechanisms. The Camp has added a fresh vibe into cross-straits water exchanges and provided opportunities for the young water professionals to exchange, study and enhance friendship.
Student representatives from both the Chinese Mainland and Taiwan jointly displayed the Camp flag, symbolizing the official kick-off of the 7th Cross-Straits Youth Camp on Water.

Tutoring at the opening class were professors from the Department of Water Resources and the Department of Water Environment of IWHR.

During the one week and a half, students got to visit the Yanqing experimental Base and the Inner Mongolia experimental base of IWHR, Tuancheng Lake regulating reservoir of the south-to-north water diversion project, and the Lianhuachi flood control pump station.
The Cross-Straits Youth Camp on Water aims to build an exchange mechanism for young water science and technology professionals from both mainland and Taiwan. It has been successfully held for 6 editions. With the theme of "new knowledge, new partners", the 7th edition of the Camp staged colorful activities such as classroom teaching, site visits, cultural tours, group discussions and networking events.
