Laboratory of Project Inspection and Repair
Time: 2009-08-07 | Hits:

The Laboratory of Project Inspection and Repair is mainly engaged in the research of the new technology, new method and new equipments for the hydraulic structures inspection and repair. Based on the know-how of the inspection and numerical simulation analysis, the safety diagnosis system and evaluation method for a hydraulic structure have been established. Meanwhile, the repairing techniques of both above the water and under water have been developed and integrated to cope with various problems in project. In recent years, the typical projects involved in research and application practices are: Xiaolangdi Project, the water diversion project of Yellow River to Shanxi Province, Fengman Project, Chencun Project, Lijiaxia Project, Longyangxia Project, Nierji Project, Baishan Project, Shankou project and Kalasuke Project, the Middle Route Project of South-to-North Water Transfer in China, etc.

Research fields

● Quality detection technology and safety evaluation methods for hydraulic structures
● Research of key techniques for heightening and construction of RCC dams in the high altitude and cold zone
● Technologies and materials for maintenance and reinforcement of hydraulic structures

Typical Projects

Feasibility study for long-term safety evaluation and comprehensive treatment scheme of Fengman gravity Dam: on the basis of previous research data, a comprehensive safety evaluation for the flood discharge capacity, overall quality of concrete, stability against sliding, seismic parameters, etc. of Fengman Dam, and a comprehensive treatment scheme has been put forward, including the seepage control of dam body, dry-site and underwater construction alternatives for seepage control of the upstream-dam face, and the comprehensive feasibility, which has provided a solid scientific basis for the treatment of Fengman Dam.

Site inspection for concrete quality of Chencun Dam: includes the concrete strength, carbonation depth, permeability, elasticity modulus and the internal defects of concrete, in order to thoroughly understand the concrete quality status of Chencun Dam.

Key technology research on heightening of Songyue RCC Dam: Songyue Dam is located in the frigid Northeast areas. Due to the water supply requirement of Helong City, the dam needs to be heightened with roller compacted concrete. Based on this project, the new and old concrete structure model has been optimized, and the optimal temperature control scheme and the construction scheme have been selected through the simulation calculation of the temperature field and stress field of the dam.

Temperature control research on Xinjiang Shankou and KALASUK RRC Dam:  Shankou and KALASUK Dam are located in the northwest of Xinjiang region. The area climates are of cold in winter, hot in summer, windy and dry, which are extremely unfavorable for the crack control of mass concrete. If serious harmful cracks occur, the operation of dam may be affected to a large extent, and thus would jeopardize the safety of the dam. Through the numerical simulation of the temperature field and stress field of the RCC dam, the effective and feasible temperature control measures and construction schemes had been proposed, and partly applied to the project. The results were perfectly satisfactory.

Spray Test of Polyurea Elastomer for No. 2 desilting tunnel of Xiaolangdi earthfill dam: the desilting tunnel of Xiaolangdi dam is a pressure one, and the maximum flow velocity is 40m/s. Due to the low elevation of the tunnel intake and the high sediment content in water, the anti-abrasion demands of the concrete lining is very high, and the concrete grade is C70. In order to verify the anti-abrasion and impermeable performance of the polyurea elastomer, a site test was carried out at the No. 2 desilting tunnel. After 370.2 hours of sediment-water flush, the polyurea elastomer has an excellent anti-abrasion and anti-seepage performance.

Polyurea elastomer spraying on the spiral case concrete of Nierji Hydropower Station: Nierji Water Control Project is located at the junction of Heilongjiang Province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In order to prevent water abrasion and seepage, the Polyurea elastomer was sprayed on the spiral case concrete. The three year’s operation shows a very good result of the concrete protection.

Carbon fiber reinforcement for Huanren Dam: The application of carbon fiber is a new structural reinforcement method developed in the past 10 years. Huanren Dam is an old dam with massive single-buttress. Due to the long term operation, various cracks appeared, and those on No.16 buttress was 18m long and penetrating one. In order to ensure the dam safety, the carbon fiber had been used for reinforcement of the concrete.

Carbon fiber reinforcement for Fengshankou Water Gate: located in the downstream of Huairou Reservoir, Fengshankou Water Gate is a control building for the lower reaches of the Jingmi Channel. After many years operation, the concrete structure is serious ageing. In order to ensure the safety of the gate, the carbon fiber reinforcement is used to the piers of the gate, the operating bridge floor, the upstream surface and downstream face of the support walls of operating bridge. Several year operations show that: carbon fiber reinforcement has a good effect.

Concrete repairs of Lijiaxia and Longyangxia sluiceway floors: The abrasion and cavitation damage on the concrete surfaces of the sluiceway structures, caused by the high-speed water flow and sand-water, has not been solved over the years. On the basis of the research project of Application and Development of the Abrasion-resistant Materials under High-velocity Water Flow, funded by State Power Corporation of China, a special anti-abrasion concrete was used to repair the sluiceway floors of Lijiaxia dam and Longyangxia dam. The results showed a very good repair effect.
