Physical model test for Guanting Reservoir sedimentation

Physical model test for Xiaolangdi Reservoir sedimentation

The Division of Reservoir and Lake Sedimentation mainly studies and solves sediment problems for the layout, design and operation of reservoirs, lakes, and hydraulic projects. Research fields mainly include reservoir sedimentation, maintaining effective volume of reservoirs on sediment-laden rivers, reservoirs operation modes, density current and sediment flushing measures, etc. These years, the Division has studied sediment problems of Three Gorges reservoir, Xiaolangdi reservoir, Sanmenxia reservoir, Liujiaxia reservoir, Guanting reservoir, Xiangjiaba reservoir, Baishi reservoir, Hongshan reservoir, as well as Dongting Lake. In recent years, the Division has successfully finished some national and provincial key projects, such as the influence of reservoir sedimentation on high sediment-laden rivers on water resources, water environment and flood hazard, feasibility research on dredging of Guanting reservoir, and the physical model tests for the sediment problems in water diversion project of Nenjiang, the tunnel construction for flushing sediment from Taohe River of Liujiaxia hydropower station, and the optimum operation of cascade reservoirs. Cooperating with Japan experts, the Division finished the experimental research on complex 3-d flow fields.

Main research fields:

稲eservoir operation and sedimentation
稢hannel bed variation downstream hydro-projects
稴ediment problem and control in the backwater area of reservoir
稭itigation measures for sedimentation in dam areas and sediment sluices
稴ediment flushing by density current of reservoir
稦low and sediment transprot in lakes and lake bed variation
稢oupling mechanism between river and lake evolvement
稰rinciple and measures of and lake regulation
