Abstract: This paper introduces a distributed hydrological model system, MWEasyDHM, which consists of four main parts: (1) general GIS tool for hydrological analysis, (2) pre-processing module for modeling, 3) simulation module and (4) post-processing module. The general GIS tool for hydrological analysis has been developed on the basis of MapWindow GIS, which is open-source. This GIS tool also includes functions for other parts of this system. The pre-processing module is made up of three sub-modules: sub-module for hydrological analysis based on DEM, sub-module for model parameter calculation, and sub-module for interpolation of meteorological and rain data. The simulation module supplies the function of real-time simulation, i.e. results can be shown in accordance with simulations. The post-processing module includes two sub-modules: auto-calibration of parameters, and the display of simulation results. Overall, The MWEasyDHM has solved the problem for fast modeling and calibration of the EasyDHM model, and provides a good foundation for further development and applications of distributed hydrological simulations in large scales.
