Abstract: The central region of Yunnan Province is the most important one. With the rapid social and economic development, the demand for water resources will rise and the conflict between supply and demand will get more and more serious. Water resource shortage will affect economic development. In this paper, a two dimensional hydrodynamic and water quality model was developed to forecast the water quality change and effect of Erhai Lake based on different alternatives of Dian Zhong Water Diversion Project and disposal of pollution. The result of model shows that TN and TP concentration of “utilizing Erhai” scheme is higher than “Not utilizing Erhai” scheme. The change of TP between two schemes is bigger. TP concentration degrades from Grade II to Grade III. In respect to protecting Erhai water quality, “Not utilizing Erhai” scheme is recommended.

Key words: Dian Zhong Water Diversion Project, two dimension hydrodynamic and water quality model
