Abstract: By monitoring, the concrete of the Swiss Serra arch dam was found to have an irreversible up stream displacements and a non-uniform subsidence of the dam crest, besides non-uniform cracks, especially along the downstream perimeter, which may threaten the safety of the dam. At the same time, the dis charge capacity of the arch dam does not meet the new flood control standard. Considering the long-term security, in the Serra dam repair, the construction of a new dam few meters downstream of the existing one was decided. The construction work includes the demolition, construction, hydropower station operating and hydrological forecast model developed during the construction. The Serra dam reconstruction is of certain significance to the restoration of hydropower projects in China.
