Abstract: Hilbert huang transform (HHT) based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is considered more effective in dealing with non-stationary and non-linear signal. Thus the mode mixing phenomenon is often generated in the process of EMD, which affects the accuracy of analytical results. In this paper, the mode mixing phenomenon can be restrained effectually by adding filters in the process of EMD. Examples of simulation signal analysis verified the effect. Finally, the strong earthquake response data of dam were analyzed to study the seismic response laws of dam through the practical application of the improved HHT method.

Key words: Strong earthquake response, empirical mode decomposition, filtering, Mode Mixing
