President of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) Professor Joseph H.W. Lee visited IWHR on March 18, 2021.

Professor Lee is also serving as the President of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) with an honorary title of IWHR Eminent Scholar and the Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering of the UK.

IWHR President Dr. KUANG Shangfu warmly greeted Prof. Lee at IWHR headquarters together with IWHR Vice President Dr. PENG Jing and representatives from relevant departments. Dr. KUANG congratulated Prof. Lee on his new appointment as the President of MUST. He spoke highly of the IAHR online events in the past year, and pledged IWHR’s full support to IAHR activities in the future, particularly the involvement in IAHR flagship events and journal management. He also looked forward to further collaboration with MUST in areas including but not limited to postgraduate joint training programs and field observation.

Prof. Lee appreciated IWHR’s generous support to IAHR and remarkable achievements made under the close partnership between the two sides. In the past year, despite the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, IAHR successfully organized a series of online events and built its new information management system with support from IWHR.

Prof. Lee also introduced IAHR’s three focuses during his term of office, including Eco-hydraulics, Artificial Intelligence and Water, and Africa and Water. He wished to work closely with IWHR on behalf of IAHR and MUST to jointly advance water science in the future.

Prof. Lee also visited IWHR’s Department of Water Resources, Department of Water Ecology and Environment Research, Research Center on Flood and Drought Disaster Reduction, and Department of Hydraulics, and communicated with experts in these departments.

The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) is the most time-honored international academic organization in water science and environmental engineering. IWHR has been hosting the IAHR Secretariat’s Beijing Office since 2015. In 2019, Prof. Joseph H.W. Lee was elected as the first Chinese President of IAHR.
