Prof. Peter Goodwin, President of IAHR, together with three vice presidents-Prof. Angelos N. Findikakis, Prof. James E. Ball and Prof. Arthur Mynett visited IWHR on March 22, 2017 on the occasion of attending IAHR Council meeting and delivering talks on the incident of Oroville dam spillway failure in the U.S.

The delegation were warmly received by the Dr. Kuang Shangfu, President of IWHR, and other representatives. The two sides made candid exchanges of opinion on issues such as dam engineering safety, flood control and the impact of climate change both in China and in the U.S.

The Global Vision Forum on Forces of Water in Nature was held in the morning of March 22 at IWHR headquarters, attended by over 180 professionals and live watched by over 800 viewers.

Prof. Peter Goodwin talked on "Water research to inform a changing world: examples from the United States;" Prof. Angelos Findikakis delved in to the details of the Oroville dam spillway failure that took place in the February; and Prof. Arthur Mynett in his report cited the Dutch experiences in risk-based standards for flood protection.

Lively and in-depth discussions ensued.

IAHR Council meeting convened on March 23 and 24 at IWHR headquarters, during which time IAHR activities in 2016 were reviewed and the planning for 2017 was deliberated.
