Larry Weber, Director of IIHR Hydroscience & Engineering (IIHR) of University of Iowa, visited IWHR on April 21, 2015, met IWHR President Kuang Shangfu, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the purpose of educational, training and research cooperation.

Dr. Kuang welcomed Prof. Weber’s second visit to IWHR in nine years, and hoped both institutes could, based on the existing cooperation, increase personnel exchange, short-term visits and academic communication particularly in fields of flood risk management, technology information application and other disciplines of common interests.

Prof. Weber’s last visit to IWHR was in 2006 when he gave a lecture on the restoration of large rivers.

He said he was looking forward to substantial technical cooperation based on the MOU, and hoped both sides could share development experience through further communication.

After the meeting, Prof. Weber also visited IWHR’s Research Center on Flood and Drought Disaster Reduction, and held discussions with the experts there on flood risk management, application of remote sensing technology, capacity building and knowledge sharing.
