Junaid Ahmad, senior director for World Bank Group’s Water Global Practice, led a 6-person delegation and visited IWHR on January 20, 2015, and was received by IWHR’s President Kuang Shangfu, Vice President Wang Xiaogang and honorary director of the institute’s Department of Water Resources Wang Hao, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Dr. Kuang reviewed the cooperation between IWHR and World Bank, as well as the current situation and policies of water resources in China. Responding to the interests of the visiting delegates, he also specifically introduced some related departments and research achievements of the institute.

Dr. Kuang spoke highly of the establishment of the bank’s Water Global Practice, which he believed reflects the financial institution’s far-sighted visions. He expressed IWHR’s willingness to enhance cooperation with the bank and provide technical support for its business in the field of water resources.

Mr. Ahmad briefed on the newly-established unit, and expressed his interests in the management and related policies of water resources in China. He hoped to, through visits and exchange, know more about the advanced technologies and experience in China and make contributions to the scientific management and sustainable development of global water resources.

Topics also discussed at the meeting included China’s most stringent water resources management policy, the trading market of water rights, institution and incentives of integrated river basin management of water resources, etc.
