Abstract
The outlet heated flow by the thermal/nuclear power plants is somewhat different from those ordinary waste water due to the fact that the outlet of the cooling water is always associated with an intake of the same discharge. The outlet and intake should be tested as a whole and the water temperature is the variable mainly concerned in the study. This paper presents a review on IWHR(Chinese Institute of Water and hydraulic Research)’s research activities and experiences of nearly 50-years’ in the works of cooling water circulations and relevant environmental predictions, which also reflects to some extent the research developments and the present research status in this field in China. Both numerical simulation and physical model experiment for predicting performances of cooling water system and their impact are accounted for.
