Research Department of Water Conservancy History is the only academic body
in China that specializes in historical researches on water conservancy
. The researches conducted cover a wide
range
of topics concerning historical practice of water conservancy which comes
along with the long history of China . As a scientific branch , water conservancy
history not only engages in researches on history and culture of common
sense , but also reveals its superiority in synthetic researches of multiplicity
on strategies of water management and control , variation trends of disasters
, measures for flood hazard mitigation , evolution of water environment
and etc.. The accomplishments in this branch add up references to modern
water conservancy practice . Several accomplishments on flood hazard mitigation
and history of science and technology gained national awards for scientific
researches. Furthermore, we exchange research accomplishments with academic
societies and institutes in Japan ,France ,Germany and so on.

| 3.Ancient water works --TaShan Weir |
TaShan Weir was built in Tang Dynasty originally. As a multiple functional water works of irrigation, water supply, shipping, and environmental effect, it is in use up till now . Department of Water Conservancy History recommend it for priority of national protection . Totally ,there are five such ancient water works which have been given priority of national protection in China, the other four are DujiangWeir,JingHui Cannel, Ling Cannel and AnFengTang (a reservoir built in 605 BC) |
