Laboratory of Hydraulic Machinery

Hydraulic Machinery Laboratory, well equiped with modernized multiple function facilities and high quality instrumentation, is well qualified to conduct model studies, acceptance tests and basic research o various types of hydraulic turbine and pump-turbine.
 
The laboratory consists of 4 major testing stands, namely:
 
Stand No.1
   It is a test stand of power-efficiency for turbine and pump-turbine. Maximum test head, 5.0m; maximum flow rate, 1m3/sec; runner diameter: 250-350mm; total error, +/-45%.
 
Stand No.2
   It is a test stand for bulb type turbine, pump and axial flow pump. Maximum head, 20m; maximum flow rate, 1m3/s; runner diameter, 250-350mm; total error, +/-0.5%
 
Stand No.3
   It is a high accuracy universal test stand for conducting hydraulic machinery power-efficiency, cavitation behaviour and various kinds of model studies. Maximum head 60m; maximum flow rate 1.0m3/s, runner diameter, 250~400mm; total error, +/-25%.
 
Stand No.4
   It is a test stand for power~efficiency, cavitation and erosion research in sand-water twophase flow condition for turbine and pump-turbine. Maximum head, 120m; maximum flow rate, 0.4m3/s; runner diameter, 250mm; sedimentcontent0~200kg/m3.
 
   A HP-1000 computer with HP-2250 data acquisition device are available for data logging and processing in performance test, cavitation test, or other test items such as pressure fluctuation, flow distribution and hydraulic thrust, wicket gate torque measurement etc.
 
   A 110 ton highaccuracy weighing tank is provided for calibration of flow rate, the total error of it is +/-0.03%.
 
 
 
Francis type model turbine of the Three-Gorges Project, is under performance test on the Stand No. 3, using HP computer for data acquisition and processing. 
 
A centrifugal pump driven by a 500kw D.C. motor, able to provide sufficient power and variable speed for test stand No.3.
 
 
A high precision balance of 2 T capacity used to calibrate 110 Ton weighing tank. A quick-motion flow diverter is shown behind the balance.
