The network information center (NIC)

The network information center (NIC) is compose by department of network, communication, library and journal editorial.

NIC was established in 1998. As the information managing department, the department of network began to be responsible for planning, developing, managing and maintaining the whole network with the completing of local computer network system in IWHR. With the development of management system on personal resources, finances, official files and library, the network system acts more and more important role in the field of research, production and ordinary life in our institute.

In 1999, With the development of web site of China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (http:// www.iwhr.com), IWHR opened a window to the
world. In the same year, the compliment of inner IWHR web site

(http://inner.iwhr.com) provided a platform for departments of IWHR to share the resources.
Our institute established the first web site in the field of water resources-China Water Science Information Network which is administered by Bureau of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, Ministry of Water Resources. Nowadays, department of network builds and maintains several web sites, such as Chinese National Committee on Large Dams (http://www.icold-cigb.org.cn), Center of personal resources (http://rencai.chinawater.net.cn), South-to-North Water Transfer Project (http://www.nsbd.mwr.gov.cn), National Center of Efficient Irrigation Engineering and Technology Research-Beijing(http://www.watsave.com),etc.

During these years, department of network took part in the 20th ICOLD Congress and the XXIX IAHR Congress, to be responsible for building web site, maintaining network and reporting news during the Congress time. Reporting important activities in the field of water resources successfully gained high reputation for IWHR.

IWHR Library：

IWHR Library established in 1958, including north branch, south branch and reference room. Library composed of department of acquisition and cataloguing, department of reading and lending and department of periodicals. There are 6 people working in the library.The Library has the total floor area of 1,010 square meters, and a total collection of 118,000 volumes. In its rich collection, there are 90,000 volumes of Chinese books, 55,000 volumes of foreign language books, 10,000 volumes of Chinese periodicals, 20,000 volumes of foreign language periodicals. Now, Library has subscribed 245 kinds of Chinese periodicals and 113 kinds of foreign language periodicals. The collection is mainly in the field of technology and serves for technicians in IWHR.

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering

《Journal of Hydraulic Engineering》Started publication in 1956. This academic journal directed by Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society is the first journal that published in the field of water resources and wins high reputation both inside and outside China. It has also been ranked the first core journal in this field.The journal publishes the academic essays、special subjects and summary of engineering technology with high level in the field of water resources and hydropower, holds discussion and comment on academic essays and introduces development and information about technology at home and abroad.

The main fields include: water resources, flood control and disaster reduction, irrigation and draining, hydraulics, sedimentation problems, foundation and geotechnical problems, structures and materials for dam building, design and supervision of hydro projects, hydraulic engineering, hydro economics, hydro environmental problems, research of hydro history, etc.
