The Engineering Safety Monitoring Center
(ESMC)
The Engineering Safety Monitoring Center (ESMC) is engaged in the research, development, manufacture, calibration and installation of monitoring instruments and automatic data acquisition systems. It also provides the clients with consultation service and data analysis as well as safety assessment. The Center possess the certificate of China Metering Accrediation issued by the state. Thirty staffs are now working in the Center, including 20 experienced senior engineers and 10 active young engineers.
 
Since the establishment, the Center has completed many projects and accumulated rich experience. Three achievements won the State Prize of Progress in Science and Technology and thirty achievements won the Ministry/Province Prizes. Series of high quality instruments have been developed and applied to large-scale hydro projects.
 
The Center integrates research, development, manufacture and consultation service with commerce and pay sinificant attention to the combination of research with practical application. It aims at the application of high technology and actively adsorbs the new experiences both inside and outside China.Currently, the Center is the commission agent of several foreign instrumentation companies and provides selling, calibrating,installing and training services. Based on the improvement of the domestic instruments, ESMC has developed a series of new, reliable instruments to meet the needs of the projects in China.

    ESMC is equipped with the following major instruments and facilities: Compacting meter, Rayleigh wave engineering quality testing meter,nondestructive concrete testing meter, seepage detection meter, inclinometer, guide tube spiral meter, load cell, extensometer, stress meter, telepressmeter, displacement meter, multi-extension meter, reinforcement meter,steel sheet meter,slpoe compacting quality control system,vertical displacement measurement system, horizontal displacement measurement system, joint meter, rockmeter, deflection meter for bedrock, thermometer, anemometer, level gauge and relevant instruments, cable with shield seepage proof and other subsidiary parts.
 
    Automatic monitoring system and safety evaluation system are developed,which can automatically collect,transmit,process,and analyze the monitoring data and to evaluate operation status of engineering projects.
 
Major Projects Involved at Present:  
BJZ-3B/H Rayleigh-Wave Engineering Quality Tester is used for fast non-destructive test of dam construction quality in hydro-power engineering, including engineering quality of concrete.
DWG-40 Multi-Extension Meter is used to measure deep layer displacement of rock in drilling holes.The meter has been employed in safety monitoring of rock engineering and measurement of rock mechanics in site.
CN Spiral Meter for guided tubes is a special instrument for spiral angle measurement of guided tubes for inclinometer.The principle of the tranducer is based on a bi-direction magnetic flux gate.
Type YS-1 Compaction meter,fixed on a vibratory roller,can be used to control the compaction quality of fills,such as rock fill,sandy gravel,earth fill,RCC etc.The figure shows that the meter was employed to control compaction quality of sand and gravel in the dam construction of Chaersheng reservoir.On the right-top corner is the instrument.
Concrete Non-destruction Testing Instrument(RL-2000 series)is applied to inspect the crack¡¯s depth in massive concrete structure and concrete slab,the holes and combs in concrete,the interface behavior of concrete and rock,and the performance parameters of concrete structures.
Intelligent Measurement & Control System automatic monitoring data acquisition,transmission,display and analysis;remote automatic monitoring of engineering.
Intelligent Measurement & Control Cell is the important part of consisting of the Intelligent Measurement & Control System.It has many functions such as measurement, memory, self-test, control, data process, system variate analysis, etc.It can measure paraments including voltage, resistence current, capacitance, inductance, frequency and can directly connect with vibrating wire instruments, resistence instruments, capacitance instruments,inductance instrumens and other tranducers with standard industry signal input.
Total Pressure Cell   monitoring total pressure acting on a structure to verify design assumption;determining the magnitude,distribution,and orientation of stresses.
Piezometer  Monitoring pore pressures to determine safe factors of fill or excavation;monitoring pore pressures to determine slope stability; monitoring the effects of dewatering systems used for excavation; monitoring the effects of ground improvement system.
