IWHR senior engineer Dr. Jia Jinsheng was bestowed with the 2023 Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Award (Engineering Construction Technology Award), among a total of 56 laureates.

Dr. Jia Jinsheng, a leading figure in hydraulic structures, is the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of IWHR. He also serves as the Vice Council Chairman of the Chinese National Committee on Large Dams (CHINCOLD), and the Honorary Chairman of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD).
Dr. Jia has been devoting himself to the research of key technologies for dams. He has led teams to tackle critical technical issues in world-class hydraulic projects, such as the Three Gorges Dam, the Xiaowan Dam, the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the Shuibuya Dam, etc. He pioneered a new type of dam with cemented materials and has created multiple new technologies for security of high concrete dams and high CFRD dams, which have been applied in more than 200 dam projects in China and worldwide.
The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation is a Hong Kong-based non-government organization, established in 1994 by financiers Ho Sin Hang, Leung Kau-Kui, Ho Tim and Lee Quo-wei. It annually bestows Science and Technology Awards upon outstanding Chinese scientists who have contributed to the country’s modernization.
