IWHR expert re-elected as President of WASWAC

IWHR expert Professor Ning Duihu was successfully re-elected as the President of the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (WASWAC), during the hybrid meeting of 5th General Assembly of Members of the association on Dec. 2.

During the meeting, which convened 89 representatives from 31 member countries, President Ning Duihu reported on the work of the 4th Council of WASWAC for 2020-2022. The proposed revision of the association’s constitution was put to a vote and approved, and the 5th Council (for 2023-2025) was elected.

The new Council consists of 48 members from 29 countries, with 7 experts from China being selected.

The new Council afterwards held its first meeting and elected leaders of the association. Professor Ning Duihu was re-elected as the President of WASWAC for 2023-2025.

Ning, a senior engineer at IWHR, has long been devoting himself to the research on soil erosion and soil and water conservation. He served as the Executive Secretary of WASWAC Council for 2011-2013, and was elected as the President of the association for 2020-2022.

Pan Qingbin, another IWHR expert, was elected as the Secretary-General of WASWAC for 2023-2025.

The meeting also approved the application reports from the National Agricultural Research Institute of Morocco regarding the next WASWAC International Symposium, as well as from Shenyang Agricultural University regarding the next International Youth Forum on Soil and Water Conservation. Discussions were held on the new Council’s arrangement of future events.
