IWHR releases its 2021 Annual Report

The 2021 Annual Report (hereafter referred to as “the Report”) of IWHR is available online now!

The Report concludes the institution’s achievements in advancing water-related research, facilitating the high-quality development of China’s water sector, and boosting exchange and cooperation in the international water community in 2021, especially against the backdrop of COVID-19, climate change and other challenges.

Academic & project achievements

With the aim of becoming by 2035 one of the best and by 2050 the lead of the club of world-class institute of water resources and hydropower research, IWHR has worked very hard and achieved fruitful outcomes in water-related R & D and has carried out productive academic activities.

IWHR’s Engineering and Environment/Ecology discipline remains at the top 1% in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) discipline ranking. Two of the its journals, the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering and the International Journal of Sediment Research, got recognized as top-ten journals of water engineering in the World Journal Clout Index (WJCI).

IWHR scientists reaped multiple awards in international competitions, including the Energy & Environment Award in the 2021 World Smart City Competition (China Division) and the Outstanding Award in the World Water Challenge 2021.

With its rich experiences and advanced equipment for projects in an array of water-related areas, IWHR’s contract volume reached another record high in 2021, at 1.838 billion CNY (274.4 million USD).

Major research outcomes of IWHR in 2021 include:

·   Key Technologies for Monitoring and Early-Warning of Flash Floods and Their Application in China;

·   Key Technologies for Coordinated Drainage and Dispatching of Urban Water Systems and Their Application;

·   Variation Mechanism and Key Control Technologies of Water and Sediment in the Yellow River Basin;

·   Research and Application of Key Technology on Simulation Dams of Super-High Arch Dam;

·   Theory and Technology for Regional Water Cycle Analysis and Water Security Diagnosis in City Clusters;

·   Environmental Process and Effect of Available Concentration of Heavy Metals;

·   Nonlinear Dynamic Parallel Computing of High Concrete Dams;

·   High-efficiency Vegetation Restoration and Seabuckthorn Industrialization Technology and Demonstration in the Wind-water Erosion Crisscross Region of the Loess Plateau;

·   Study on Characteristics of Denitrated Fly Ash and Key Technologies for Its Safe Application in Hydraulic Concrete;

The Key IWHR Innovation of 2021

 

Management, International Cooperation & Postgraduate Education

The Report also updates IWHR’s latest progress in intellectual properties, talent team building and public water science education, as well as its contribution to the global water agenda and participation in international water-related projects.

IWHR’s major international cooperation activities in 2021

IWHR also keeps nurturing young water talents through its international postgraduate education program. Five international postgraduate students, including two for Master’s degree and three for Doctor’s, were recruited in 2021.
