IWHR’s Science Education Center for Flood Control and Drought Mitigation and the Science Education Center for Water Saving were identified, among the first group of its kind, as State Science Education Bases for 2021-2025 by China Association for Science and Technology.
The Science Education Center for Flood Control and Drought Mitigation of IWHR owns a land area of over 4,900 square meters and a variety of observation instruments. The Center has been long devoted to the dissemination of knowledge about risk management of floods and droughts, prevention and control of water-related disasters, and preservation and inheritance of water culture. It has organized more than 200 science popularization activities, including the simulative experience of floods and droughts, emergency response skills training, providing learning opportunities for thousands of people each year.
The center has published over 50 popular science books about flood and drought and academic publications like the China Flood and Drought Management and the Bulletin of Flood and Drought Disasters. It has also produced China’s first popular science film about flash flood.
Based on IWHR’s Daxing and Yanqing Experimental Base in Beijing and the Base of Water Resources for Pastoral Areas in Inner Mongolia, the Science Education Center for Water Saving owns over 50,000 square meters of land area and a variety of scientific observation instruments. It has become one of China’s key institutions for research and public education on efficient water use, which is open to the public for more than two months each year, providing over 100 lectures by invited Academicians and other water professionals to raise public awareness of water-saving. Science summer camps are organized at irregular intervals, equipping thousands of people with water-saving knowledge.
IWHR’s Daxing Experimental Base
The Science Education Center for Water Saving publishes over 20 popular science books each year. It also uses television and the Internet for the dissemination of water-saving knowledge.
