The 3rd Symposium on Research Frontiers in Water Sciences was hosted in connection with the 2021 Annual Meeting of IAHR China Chapter on November 18, 2021 by IWHR and IAHR.
Focusing on water resources and aquatic ecology, the Symposium invited renowned water experts to share their views on the water science research frontiers and development trends.
“The Symposium is a platform for exchanging the cutting-edge technologies and promoting innovative development. It has been a great event series featuring the present of high-level professionals at home and abroad who share their latest research finding and academic views on frontier and critical issues in water sciences. The forum exactly echoes the new requirements and new topic of high-quality development of water which is strongly advocated in China.” noted LI Jinxiu, Vice President of IWHR, at the opening ceremony.
The keynote speech session was chaired by LIU Yulong, Deputy Director of the Information Center of IWHR and Prof. CHENG Xiaotao, Editor-in-chief of Journal of Hydraulic Engineering. A total of eight presentations were made during the forum focusing on issues including integrated regulation of urban water system, integrated management for water ecological security, regulation of key reservoirs for water-sediment balancing of the Yellow River, large-scale ecological regulation, basin-wide flood control and disaster reduction in post-engineering period, retreating dikes for lake restoration in Poyang Lake, digital smart flood control system, and lessons learned from low lying delta country.
Faced with severe challenges of global resources and environment as well as climate changes, in-depth and systematic discussion on water related issues like this forum is of great significance and should be carried forward with more efforts in the future.
