Department of Geotechnical Engineering

Founded in 1956, the Department conducts researches on related issues in embankment dams, slopes, tunnel and underground works, including theoretical geotechnical, engineering geotechnical, numerical and intelligent geotechnical, and termite control. It conducts basic research on soil mechanics and rock mechanics, has comprehensive and advanced numerical simulation, material testing, and physical simulation conditions, and has performance capabilities in monitoring and detection, geophysical explorin, professional system integration development, appraisal and evaluation, and technical consulting. The Department consists of 8 research sections, namely: Section of Static Soil Mechanics, Section of Soil Dynamics and Anti-seismic Techniques of Geotechnical Structures, Section of Geotechnical Centrifuge Modeling, Section of Rock Mechanics, Section of Dam Safety and Engineering Protection Technology, Section of Safety Appraisal of Engineering,Section of Eco-geotechnical Engineering and Section of Termite Control. The Department has a total staff of 54, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 30 professor-level senior engineers and 11 senior engineers. There are 49 persons with a doctoral degree and 4 with a Master's degree.
